UNESCO to Declare Angklung World Heritage Soon

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesia’s traditional music instrument, the ’Angklung’, is soon to be officially delared a world heritage item by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) like batik, wayang, and the keris before.

"On November 18, angklung will be declared a world heritage article ," Wardiyanto, secretary general of the Tourism and Culture Ministry, said here Thursday.

He said the ministry had made intensive efforts to convince UNESCO of the need to recognize angklung as one of the world’s heritage items like batik, the keris (ceremonal dagger) and wayang (Javanese traditional puppets) which had obtained the world heritage status earlier, he said. The efforts to get the angklung included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, were made for the first time years ago, he said.

"We plan to have more things of Indonesian culture recognized as part of the world’s heritage," he said.

At present a total of 890 objects world wide are on UNESCO’s world heritage list and 689 of them are in the culture category, 176 in the nature category and 25 in both the culture and nature categories.

Of the 890 objects with world heritage status 11 were Indonesian with four of them in the nature, three in the culture and four in the intangible culture categories. The Indonesian natural heritages consist of Ujung Kulon National Park in Banten Province, Komodo National Park in East Nusa Tenggara, Lorentz National Park in West Papua province, and Sumatran tropical forests comprising the Gunung Leuser, Kerinci Sablat and Bukit Barisan national parks.

The three cultural heritages are the Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple, and Sangiran Pre-historical site. The intangible world heritages from Indonesia were the wayang and keris which were recognized as masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity in 2003 and 2005, and also batik as a tangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2010.

JULAU (Sarawak): The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) is no slacker in taking action against those who abuse the Internet, Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said.

"We have taken action, are taking action and will take action against offenders. But we need to be very cautious because the cyberworld is very complicated," he told the media after launching the second "Kampung WiFi" network at Rh Guntol, Nanga Bekiok, in Merurun here.

"What the public does not know is that there are many things which we do confidentially ... that we do not air out. But SKMM has done its job well."

Rais said that for instance 13 cases had been forwarded to the Attorney-General's chambers, of which six had been made known to the public.

These involved belittling the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the sultans of Perak and Johor, despising other religions, instigations, spreading lies, phishing, and making sensitive racial sentiments.

"It is for the Attorney-General's chambers to make the final decision," he said.

He said some 503 websites are being looked at by the SKMM for various offences.

Efforts are being made to improve enforcement units in terms of acquiring more computer forensics experts, training and relevant equipment.

Rais said Sarawak has a bright future in communications development and that in about two years from now, it will have one of the fastest and best systems in place.

"Beginning this year, we are going to build 203 communications towers statewide," he said.

"In addition to that, the rural areas will get special attention from my ministry, specifically in improving TV and radio transmissions with the assistance of Astro, RTM and the local authorities," he said.

He said his ministry has requested for telcos, including Telekom Malaysia, Celcom, U-Mobile and Maxis, to postpone their intention to take back 161 towers that they built statewide.

He said the towers, with the 203 that the Government was building, would help push the state's broadband penetration to 37.9% by the end of the year, from the current 26%.

"Nationwide, we are very confident of achieving the 50% penetration level by the end of this year," he said. - Bernama

A British teenager has been banned from America for life for sending Barack Obama an abusive email, in which he calls the President a p***k.

Luke Angel, 17, insulted Mr Obama while drunk after watching a programme about the 9/11 attacks on the U.S.

Angel was reprimanded by police on both sides of the Atlantic after firing off the message to the White House.

Kekerasan di HKBP Ciketing Bekasi

BEKASI, KOMPAS.com — Tindak kekerasan terhadap kebebasan beragama di Indonesia kembali terjadi. Minggu pagi ini sekitar pukul 09.00, dua pendeta di Gereja Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) Ciketing, Bekasi, dipukuli dan ditusuk.

Informasi ini dibenarkan oleh petugas jaga Kepolisian Resor Bekasi Aiptu Daimun yang dihubungi Kompas.com. "Benar, laporannya begitu. Kejadiannya sekitar pukul 09.00, sekarang petugas sedang di TKP semua. Saya belum mendapat informasi lanjutan. Polda juga terus telepon tanya-tanya ke sini," kata Daimun.

Daimun menjelaskan, lokasi kejadian berada di HKBP Ciketing, Jalan Ciketing Asem RT 03/RW 06, Mustika Jaya, Mustika Sari, Bekasi. "Itu tempatnya sama dengan yang ribut-ribut dulu," kata Daimun.

Sementara itu, Pdt Leonard Nababan, gembala sidang di HKBP Bekasi yang dihubungi Kompas.com, memaparkan bahwa korban penusukan bernama Pdt ST Sihombing. Menurut Nababan, Sihombing sedang berjalan kaki menuju gereja, sekitar pukul 08.30. Saat itu penusukan terjadi. Pelaku menggunakan sepeda motor dan langsung melarikan diri setelah menusuk.

Informasi pertama mengenai tindakan kekerasan ini pertama kali beredar luas di jajaring Twitter. Disebutkan, Pdt Luspida Simandjuntak dipukuli dan satu pendeta lain (Pdt ST Sihombing) ditusuk benda tajam menjelang ibadah. Disebutkan juga, salah satu pendeta saat ini dilarikan ke rumah sakit Mitra Keluarga Bekasi karena kritis akibat pendarahan.

Semalam saya masuk ke kelas T6 Atas. Kebetulan seorang pelajar sedang membuat persembahan sejarah, tentang kebangkitan nasionalism di Myanmar. Saya cuba memahami apa yang tercatat pada kertas mahjong yang dipaparkan. Hanya beberapa perkataan yang jelas maksudnya, yang lain-lain (kira-kira 95%) semua dieja dengan ejaan yang asing, ejaan SMS!. Saya cuma berharap kebiasaan ini tidak terbawa-bawa ke dalam peperiksaan STPM nanti. Kalau mereka menulis esei dengan ejaan sebegini, mahu dapat sifar markah. Dalam pembentangan juga ada menyebut nama Aung San. Saya tanya seorang pelajar, adakah Aung San ini ada kaitan kekeluargaan dengan Aung San Suu Kyi, penerima anugerah Keamanan Nobel, pejuang pro-demokrasi dan ketua pembangkang Myanmar sekarang. Ponteng Sekolah

Jika 40 tahun dulu, pelajar tidak hadir ke sekolah kerana kemiskinan, tak ada duit tambang bas, tak ada kasut, sekolah jauh dan bermacam sebab yang semuanya berkaitan dengan kemiskinan dan kemunduran. Kini masalah ponteng masih wujud (sekurang-kurangnya di tempat saya bertugas). Rumah dekat, emak bapak senang, motosikal ada, bas ada, macam-macam bantuan ada, tapi masih juga ramai pelajar yang ponteng. Ada seorang ibu menelefon guru, minta datang ke rumah kerana anaknya tak nak pergi sekolah. Kalau cakap ibu pun dah tak nak dengar, cakap sapa lagi. Kalau dulu ponteng sekolah duduk bawah jambatan, dalam belukar, supermarket tapi kini ponteng sekolah senang-senang tengok tv di rumah, berlengkar atas katil, emak bapak makan hati, takut nak tegur, takut anak melawan, takut anak lari.

Oleh kerana pada awal tahun tugas-tugas hakiki sebagai guru menuntut banyak masa, jadi laman blog ni agak terabai. Bagi kawan-kawan yang mungkin mengikuti perkembangan blog ni, tentu tidak adil bagi anda semua jika setiap kali asyik melihat posting yang sama. Jadi saya buat keputusan untuk menutup sementara blog ini. Sekarang saya telah ada laman web sendiri di http://sepajo.com. Buat masa ni belum ada apa-apa content lagi sebab saya tengah belajar tentang joomla dan wordpress.
